About the Paddy Games
Paddy Games is an unusual international sports event open to competitors who wish to represent their country in a range of liberating athletic manoeuvres. The common man’s games, Paddy Games founding principle is taking silliness very seriously.
While in traditional track events athletes run forwards, in Paddy Games they run backwards, are 3-legged, blindfolded, wear wellington boots, compete with broken legs and even crawl. Unnatural swimming strokes like the butterfly are replaced by the doggy paddle while field events involve bicycle tyres and loo role.
Promoting athletic events that aren’t officially recognised, Paddy Games is an unorthodox multi-sports spectacle, at once providing amusement for a global television audience, while also affording participants the opportunity to win gold for their country and rejoice in their innate right to be their very own hero.
The Paddy Games is open to all. You do not need to be an athlete to compete. Remember this is not for elite athletes, its for real people of all ages, shapes and levels of fitness who just want to have some FUN!
Paddy Games is the theatre where a whole new breed of sports-stars are born, where participants respect the lighter side of life and place merit on being silly over and above being sensible.
Recognising that competition and fun are not mutually exclusive, Paddy Games’ mission is to establish a global home for entertainment while running up a sweat. Promoting active laughter, Paddy Games novel track, field, and swimming events, present an alternative sporting vision, inviting people to change the way they look at sport while creating performance art.
Paddy Games ultimately hopes that a global fervour takes hold as people all around the world celebrate a new sporting world order as viewed through a green-tinted looking glass.
Inspired by Ireland, and in development since 2007, the inaugural Paddy Games take place in Cork City over the weekend of 14th August, 2010.
